Dr Stephen Wilson is a manual therapist using a combination of techniques from both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Remedial Massage Therapy. Steve's treatments address a broad range of conditions, both musculoskeletal and internal. Within the musculoskeletal system, he treats both acute and chronic problems. In particular, Steve has had a lot of success improving chronic pain and restricted movement in conditions such as arthritis, tendonitis, and bursitis, especially involving the shoulder, knee, hip, back and neck. Beyond the musculoskeletal system, Steve sees patients for conditions as diverse as headaches/migraines, digestive issues, restless legs, sinus congestion, etc, where he uses Traditional Chinese methods with great results.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is an ancient Chinese medical practice which uses acupuncture, massage (tui na), exercise (qigong), dietary therapy and herbal medicine to address disharmony and imbalance in the body. Whilst Steve is qualified in all areas of Traditional Chinese Medicine, he specialises in the area of massage (tui na) which he uses primarily in conjunction with acupuncture and exercise to return the body back to normal balance.
Whilst Traditional Chinese methods are more about dynamic functional activity than fixed structures, Remedial Massage has its foundation in knowledge of fixed structures - muscles, tendons, ligaments, connective tissues. By using a combination of both these Eastern and Western frameworks, Steve gains a broad and holistic view of the body and is able to see conditions from multiple perspectives. Taking into account lifestyles and the problems that arise due to aging and immobility, he is then able to apply the most appropriate therapy for each situation.
Steve is a strong believer that growing older doesn't mean we can't still be as active as we once were. There are many parts of the body that can become problematic and fall out of balance with age, but with the right treatment focus these problems can be removed and the normal balance of the body returned.
Steve qualified as a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2018 and has been practising Remedial Massage Therapy since 2010. Prior to this, he worked as a chef. He has found his knowledge of food to be invaluable in his current understanding of health. Steve was honoured to be asked to join his Chinese professor's clinic in Melbourne in 2018 where he currently works and continues to be mentored.
Steve continues to be amazed at the results he is able to achieve, often in patients who have had symptoms for years. He is looking forward to be working with the team at Whole Medicine.
